Massage does the Body GOOD !

Why Massage Is Good For Your Skin

A good massage can be beneficial in a number of ways. It can help to relax the muscles, improve circulation and blood flow, improve the circulation of oxygen around the body, soothe pain, and leave you feeling revitalised and energetic. However, the right massage can also be very good for your skin.

The improvement of circulation that occurs with a massage can benefit not only internal organs, but can also be reflected on the skin. A massage can leave your skin with a radiant glow as well as leaving you feeling pampered and relaxed. It can also help to remove dead cells from your skin, removing any dullness and bringing fresh skin to the surface. And with the right massage oil and technique, a massage will also leave your skin feeling nourished, hydrated and smooth. Moisturising your skin by way of massage allows your skin to absorb the nutrients in the oil or cream far more easily.

It is important that you use the right oil for skin massages. This will help to ensure that the skin’s texture and elasticity is improved as well as giving the skin a nourishing and softening treat. A good quality oil will not be absorbed into the skin too quickly, and will therefore last for the duration of the massage. Ensure that the oil you use contains ingredients and vitamins that are known to improve skin texture such as:

  • Vitamin E
  • Jojoba
  • Sesame
  • Primrose
  • Almond

Of course, a good massage can also help to soothe the mind as well as the skin. You can select from a wide range of fragrances, but for sensitive skin you can also select fragrance-free oils that will not irritate the skin. A good aromatherapy oil can really enhance the mood and relax the mind, and will also nourish and hydrate the skin.

Massage is not just for the body; this technique can also be used on the face as well, enabling you to improve skin texture on the face as well. Massaging your face should help to improve circulation and relieve puffiness, leaving you looking and feeling refreshed and revitalised. The type of oil you use will depend upon your skin type:

Normal Skin: can benefit from almond, sunflower or sesame oil
Dry Skin: c an benefit from apricot, avocado or wheatgerm oil
Oily Skin: can benefit from hazelnut, peach or thistle oil

The oil should be applied to your face in firm upward strokes, and you should be careful to avoid getting the oil in your eyes. Using oil in a facial massage, as with a body massage, can help to lubricate your skin in order to make the massage easier. Plus, of course, the oil will absorb in to the skin and help to re-hydrate and rejuvenate it.

The age old technique of massage, whether used on the body or the face, can have really noticeable soothing and healing effects upon the skin, and can be a valuable addition to your skin-care routine.
